JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Enterprise Intelligence & Strategy is a key member of the Intelligence & Strategy organization who sits within Marriott’s Continent Organization. The Director will balance high-priority work of the Enterprise Intelligence & Strategy team with specific insight and strategy needs of Asia Pacific Excluding China (APEC). This role is responsible for supporting formulation of enterprise-level customer insights and helping define the long-range enterprise strategy, ensuring the continent perspective is adequately represented. This role draws on an understanding of markets, competition, the APEC region, and the organization to develop defensible strategies that capitalize on our core competencies and recommends new competencies to maintain our competitive advantage. Further, the Director will support continent pull-through of the Company Strategy, helping develop continent and continent-property level views of the Company Map. The role will also support growth initiatives in the region, including but not limited to M&A and new brand development. This role will work closely with the extended Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations teams, leveraging all technical resources available to answer key business decisions. A critical role of the Director will be to understand key questions that are being (or should be) asked by the business teams, identify the appropriate approaches and business information sources (including research, analytics, and third-party information) to answer such questions, and synthesize data and insights into actionable strategies to drive the business forward.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience Required

  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university required
  • 6+ years of professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance in insight, strategy or consultative-type roles
  • Experience developing insights and strategic recommendations across geographies and demonstrated ability to address the issues of understanding consumers in different markets from an analytical and strategic perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability in translating consumer insights, research and analytics into actionable strategy
  • Experience supporting transformational strategies for business units
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results under difficult conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize business and consumer data from multiple sources into insights with practical application to business needs
  • Experience applying basic business strategy frameworks (e.g., 3 C’s, 4P’s, Porter’s 5 Forces)
  • Experience using a hypothesis-driven approach to answer a business question and identifying ways to test a hypothesis
  • Demonstrated quantitative acumen, including ability to use excel to conduct basic data analysis; experience working with data / analytics teams
  • Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills as well as demonstrated ability to find structure, logic, and insight in complex business problems to provide meaningful conclusions
  • Strong project management skills and experience balancing multiple projects or responsibilities simultaneously
  • Global experience required, including in Asia Pacific Excluding China
  • Fluency in relevant language
  • Role is required to be located in APEC

Education and Experience Preferred

  • MBA strongly preferred

Partners/advises business leaders as recommendations and strategies are brought to life.
  • Develops defensible business strategies to drive revenue growth or enter new markets, by identifying white space, isolating our competitive advantage, outlining strategic threats, and building a compelling, data-drive story around the strategy.
  • In collaboration with senior leaders and business partners, identifies and prioritizes high-impact business needs and initiatives in accordance with the enterprise strategy.
  • Connects the dots between research, analytics and business goals to develop and communicate recommendations that inform business strategy and action.
  • Drives excellence in collaboration and communication across the organization both within the Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations (SBID) team and throughout the enterprise.
  • Represents Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations (SBID) in a wide range of internal and external forums taking place in conjunction with Continent leadership

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work on specific projects.
  • Collaborates with internal partners across the enterprise to develop and share business strategies based on consumer insight, helping to inform the agenda of the Continent
  • Provides expertise on customer needs and industry trends for lodging generally and on specific key initiatives.
  • Communicates concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand.
  • Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of business priorities.
